Canadian construction specialist Lida Group has completed assembly of an innovative prototype modular food truck showcasing integration of their proprietary structurally insulated sandwich panel system within a versatile self-contained mobile commercial kitchen setup.
The truck body constructed from Lida’s prefabricated panels features insulated floors, walls and ceilings assembled without conventional on-site framing. Rigid foam cores sandwiched between impact-resistant facings form complete walk-in refrigerators, dry food storage and preparation surfaces.
Prefabricated casework and appliances fasten directly at pre-formed mounting points. A galley-style layout arranges cooking equipment, hand-washing sinks and serving counters optimizing interior workflow within the compact 12′ x 8′ footprint conforming transport regulations.
On the exterior, roll-up counter windows, large service windows and an order-taking kiosk maximise visibility and customer access. Rear panel-lift gates integrate serving platforms meeting accessibility codes. Prefabricated canopies, awnings and solar arrays complete the modular design.
All electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems required operating a commercial kitchen pre-install at the factory, eliminating on-site trades. Backup battery power supports independent operations remote from infrastructure.
Modular walls enabling rapid unit expansion or downsizing based on menus and locations. Additional wall sections could add seasoning preparation areas or convert an enclosed patio seating corral at special events.
To showcase the prototype’s functionality and resilience, Lida will trial the truck vending at construction sites and remote festivals. Owners will assess assembly/disassembly ease for indoor winter storage as well as food safety, code compliance, and cost-efficiency versus conventional trailer models.
If validated, Lida envisions the modular system enabling nimble sustainable food industry business models. Prefabrication streamlines startup costs while optimized space-planning maximizes throughput from compact footprints. Removable wall sections even allow transforming units between seasonal menu items.
Success may inspire broader non-traditional modular construction integrating sandwich panel efficiency across countless mobile industries from food trucks and tiny homes to medical clinics and mobile event venues. Lida looks forward tracking this prototype’s potential revolutionizing on-the-go business concepts.
